Beslan, Russia
On September 1, 2004, the opening day of school, Chechen terrorists took over 1100 people hostage including 777 children. Three days later, the terrorists set off explosives and opened fire killing over 300 people and injuring hundreds more.
Two members of the TNM team were in Beslan the next week. They ministered in churches and prayed for many people over the next several days. A financial gift was also given to a family that had lost 7 children in the attacks. Later, TNM's president and his wife attended ceremonies on the second anniversary and ministered in one of the local churches. The theme of that day of ministry was taken from the verse below. We encourage people everywhere to pray for the families of Beslan, especially in the early days of each September. It was truly one of the most horrific events of our times.
Is. 61:1 - 3 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.
