Where We've Been
Darfur is located in the far western region of Sudan and also along the eastern border of Chad. "Dar" means home and "Fur" is the name of the largest tribe in the region. The Fur along with other tribes have been caught in the middle of a very complex political and military battle involving the governments of Sudan and Chad as well as various militias and outside governments.
Thirst No More worked in Darfur, Sudan between 2006-2009. During that time our team repaired hundreds of broken water wells. These wells served approximately 200,000 people. Read the Fortune Magazine article and the Reuters release.
In the first quarter of 2009, Thirst No More, along with several other humanitarian aid organizations, was illegally expelled from Sudan. All supplies and assets were seized by the government and we are not permited to return.
